| Description: |
The region comprises five distinct subregions, namely the plateau, lowlands, flood plains, tidal flats and the southern hills and basins. The plateau is rugged sandstone formation up to 250m above the adjoining lowlands, and occupying much of the south-eastern part of the region. The irregular edges of the plateau, and intruding gorges, form an abrupt, scenically striking escarpment. Many of the Aboriginal sites occur along the escarpment. The rivers originate in the plateau and flow generally north-west across the lowlands, a gently undulating plain. During the wet season, rivers spread widely over extensive flood plain.
Significant indigenous values are known to exist in this area.
The Commission is currently consulting with relevant indigenous communities about the amount of information to be placed on public record. |
