Statement of Significance: |
Bellbrook has no great architecture but provides a most charming example of a very small Australian town which has survived in good condition and would be one of the more pleasant examples of a town in a landscape in New South Wale. The town generally appears much better maintained than similar towns of around The same size and deserves encouragement.
(The Commission is in the process of developing and/or upgrading official statements for places listed prior to 1991. The above data was mainly provided by the nominator and has not yet been revised by the Commission.) |
| Description: |
The town is pleasantly situated on undulating slopes. Rising from the river with magnificent views into the valley and hills beyond, Bellbrook is a very small town. Its origins date to approximately the late nineteenth when timber cutting was introduced. It was also important as a stopping place on the road to Armidale. A good example of a town in a landscape, with an unusual serpentine main street sloping gently. Has many well maintained trees. Architectural form of around 1900-20 (mainly wood). |
